My New Toy!

I picked up this 1949 Singer sewing machine this week. I can't wait to test drive it! It has the original instructions, lots of feet, and a buttonholer also with instructions. I've always wanted one of these, but never wanted to put out the cash for it. Then I saw this for a pretty good price and snatched it up!

Lovely machine. I like the stool with the storage! It's OK, I need a back on my sewing chair anyway. Waiting to see that first project sewn!

What a beauty. I have a soft spot in my heart for older machines. Can you feel me coveting yours?

Your new machine is a beauty. You won't be disappointed...
My first machine was a singer featherweight but mine has an open arm..I guess they were only made in Canada and there are very few of them. I liked that feature when I was sewing for the kids, very handy for wee cuffs and pant legs.. My DH Bought it for me in 1956. I still have it and I love to take it to workshops. It is a real workhorse with perfect stitches. I don't have a cabinet for mine though. That is a nice feature. I also have all the attatchments.LOL
Through the years I have since aquired a Bernina , and a Babylock, and a Brother. Each one I use for something different. The Bernina is for general sewing, the brother I like for machine quilting and the Babylock has the embroidery unit.... Sigh... So many toys.
Look forward to see what you do with it..
Have fun

what a great looking machine - it looks like a featherweight. that's what I learned to sew on and still own (it was my mom's). Hasn't been used in a while, but still love it.
