I bought this at a yard sale for $5. It's old and not especially well made. I think it's made out of plywood with veneer on the outside. I'm trying to decide what to do to it to make it interesting. I thought maybe I could repaint the insides, refinish the wood, and have even contemplated adding a crazy quilt to the outside surfaces. Any other ideas? I also immediately thought of Gerry K. and her painting, but I can't paint!

If it's not especially well made and you wouldn't mind covering the wood, I think it would look great decoupaged, especially with old paper ephemera and made into a collage. It could even be old sewing papers.
I'm with Laurie.
A decoupage finish would be perfect..
Nice going for $5.00

Now Connie this is really really spooky - see when I first saw that I thought WOW great thread/bobbin holder case and then I thought sure would be AWESOME with CQd covers!!!
Now I'm thinking, do you have a collection of CQd blocks and maybe pictures of them? What about printing them out and like Maggie R mentioned decoupaging them instead of the real thing and this way easier to keep clean???
I also like the painting something appropriate for your decor too. Whatever you decide ENJOY your treasure!!!
Laurie is right on... I'd check out some of the site with old advertisements or vintage patterns.... What a COOL find....
BTW I am stealing your photo of the living area mess...it is just soooooooooooooooooo.... I'll give you credit...
Hugs Gerry
OMG! My friend bought me one too at a yard sale. I'm going to cover it with CQ, add CQ pockets inside along the bottom and paint the wood to match then use it to display my silk ribbons at shows.
